Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands yet one of the least known. Half the island is fringed by sensational white or golden sand beaches washed by sparkling blue seas. There is nowhere else in the Canaries with as many enormous sand dunes and long sandy beaches (more than one hundred and fifty). Even though most of the land consists of stone and rock, these are some of the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe. The dry inland is often reminiscent of the Sahara but here and there you'll come across charming old villages and sleepy fishing ports. Forget all the hustle and bustle, this is the ultimate 'away from it all' island, a paradise for all windsurfers, scuba divers and back-to-nature beach lovers.
